Monday, October 13, 2025, is a regular business day for U.S. stock markets. Despite Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day both falling on the same date, Wall Street and other major stock exchanges will remain open. However, the U.S. bond market will be closed, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Columbus Day, celebrated on the second Monday in October, has been a federal holiday since 1892. The day often features parades and events honoring Italian-American heritage. In recent years, growing awareness of Christopher Columbus’ treatment of Native Americans led to the recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, first proclaimed by President Joe Biden in 2021. While observed in some states and cities, it is not a federal holiday and does not affect stock market operations.

After the recent Labor Day closure on September 1, stock market trading will continue as usual until late November. The next scheduled market closure is Thursday, November 27, for Thanksgiving. Traders and investors should plan accordingly and note that while stock exchanges remain open, bond markets follow a slightly different schedule.

Whether you’re actively trading or monitoring your portfolio, it’s important to know the holiday calendar. U.S. stock markets maintain most federal holiday closures, but Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day are not among them.
